After that two minutes it was MRK who pushes the button and lead by eight points after ten minutes of play.

Second quarter is a different ballgame as the opposing team tightened their defense and it was very physical as there were so many fouls committed but still MRK leads the game going into the half time every players used in the second quarter contributed the score was 39-36 in favor of MRK.

Third quarter is almost the same with MRK managing to hold on to the lead as the people watching the game is treated to a frenzied game, the game was on the fast phase anchored by MRK point guard Fernandez, who display good ball handling skill in leading MRK to hold on the lead. The highlight of the game was the block by MRK’s E. Garcia which led to a fastbreak point. The quarter closed at 51-44 MRK by seven points.

The fourth quarter starts with changes of basket and Bin-Quraya tried to stage a rally but to no avail as MRK players helps each other in thwarting the uprising from the opposing team by holding their composure and slowly they increase the lead to what the final score is 71-59.

M. R. AL-KHATHLAN beats AL-MOJIL 71-60

14 October 2007- M. R. Al-Khathlan started a little bit tentative as four of the players was not yet at the venue when the game starts as they were coming from Jubail. The first quarter was for the opposing team 10-16, MRK players was at a lost as the coach used a different starting five because of the late arrival of the players from Jubail.

As the second quarter started the regular starters were inserted to the game and the complexion of the game has changed as MRK started to eat to the lead of Al-Mojil, lead by jersey no. 2 (Fernandez) six points and four points from jersey no. 93 (E. Garcia) and the team defense was just perfect limiting Al-Mojil to only eight points the entire ten minutes of the second quarter. The quarter ends at 30-32 still Al-Mojil favor.

Third quarter action was still a give and take affair as MRK still scrambling on their shots and the selection of the shot was not good, adding to the woes of MRK was the two fouls committed by no. 21 (M. Vergara) the main man on MRK defense, if not only to the 3-point shot made the captain ball no. 4 (Malaso), MRK will be left behind by a big margin entering to the fourth quarter. Al-Mojil still lead the ballgame 45-52, opposing team by seven points.

The fourth quarter was a different story as players no. 21 (M. Vergara) and no. 98 (V. Alatraca) asserting their might under the basket and scores continuously even being given hard taps of the opposing players and players no. 10 (H. Lirio) and no.7 (S. Esteban) played a hard nose defense to the opponent’s number 1 shooter.

The quarter was orchestrated by no. 2 (Fernandez) and no. 26 (N. M. R. AL-KHATHLAN SUBDUES DERBASCO 73-57

23 November 2007 Al-Nahda Sports Club (Dammam) - The players of both team starts the first ten minutes of the ball game a little tight and rusty, for MRK players (the non scrimmage or practice shows), as we have been idle for the last 5 weeks since the last game and for DERBASCO maybe of the same reason.

The first quarter shows little excitement as both teams committed too many errors and throwing shots making nothing as it was registered in the score board 17-16 in favor of MRK.

The second quarter was almost the same as the first quarter with commission of too many errors and shots that were not finding their marks for both teams, except MRK player No. 21 (Vergara) who carried in his shoulder the scoring load by making seven points of his total 23 points in this quarter. The quarter scores stand at 34-33 MRK favor.

The third quarter shows some intensity as MRK starts the quarter with 6-0 blast to make the score at 40-33, the heat of the game starts to crop up as the game became a little bit physical at the half way mark of the 3rd quarter as MRK player No. 2 (Fernandez) got an accidental elbow that causes his lip to swell and same with player no. 21 (Vergara) receiving a wayward elbow too during a rebound play.

The game was at its excitement when DERBASCO hits two consecutive three point shot when MRK was trying to pull the game wide open. Coach Austria calls a time out to thwart the uprising of DERBASCO, he instructed his boys to relax and to have focus and MRK manages to hold on to the lead as player No. 34 (Ventula) starts making his shots. The third quarter ends at 48-47, MRK by a point.

The 4th quarter starts with MRK dropping an 8-0 bomb to make the score at 56-47by controlling the rebound and starting the fastbreak, player No. 98 (Alatraca), asserting his might under the board and scored 7 points of his total (11 points). Halfway through in this quarter Vergara also asserts his might under the basket by making his shots plus getting a foul in the process and converting his extra shot. With four minutes left in to the quarter Coach Austria starts resting his starting five players and uses his bench by sending player No. 12 (Labay) No. 1 (Tabug) and player No. 13 (Siquijor) respectively. They hold their ground and help to preserve the win by playing good defense up to the final buzzer. MRK wins by a margin of sixteen points 73-57.

The cross over semi-final will be on December 14, 2007, MRK will be facing Al-Mojil (No. 3 in the standing) at 6:00 PM. Hope to see you there.

The Scores:

73 – M. Vergara-23, C. Ventula-16, R. Fernandez-11, V. Alatraca-11, N. Zuleta-6, H. Lirio-4, S. Esteban-2, N. Malazo-2
